Target Audience for Magazine Cover and Poster

The fact that my magazine will be in public raising the question of whether the images I use will be appropriate to be used on a poster on a billboard or a bus stop where it is viewed by all ages. Therefore I will not be using very convulgant image.

The audience who will view my magazine and poster will be a passive audience because they will hopefully have enough power to make them go and want to watch the film. The consumption of my film are I know that my audience will be a particular age such as young adults and teenagers, they will be both male and female and but I ma also tapping into the niche market of horror fans who would watch any horror film just because they are a fan of the genre, therefore it is useful for me to use the conventions of horror so that they will be able to recognise it automatically as horror.

The desensitised theory can be applied because my audience would have seen a lot of these types of images before as it is common to see blood on horror film posters therefore the audience will not be effected as much by it.

Final Poster

Final Magazine Front Cover

The Making of the Poster

Experimenting with the poster.. This was the original image that I was going to use for my poster, however my group memeber sent me the new pictures that we took, therefore I chose to change it to one of the new photographs because I wanted to have a key graphic image which would be similar to the one used on the magazine so that the target audience would automactically know that this is the house style of the film.

I chose to try out a few different edits of the colour of the eyes and the main image itself to experiment and see which one looked the most effective:-

I edited the images on Adobe Photoshop and in this particular one, I chose to change the face to black and white and make the blood on her face red to make it a really strong image. However I felt like I wanted to change the eye colour tomake the image more striking.

In this version of the poster I changed the eye colour to green however I thought that this did not look scary enough and also looked slightly fake therefore did not give the image a professional look.

This is another image that I edited and I made the characters eyes have a more effective horror look. I made scelra (the white bit of the eye) black and the pupil green. I liked this version however I wanted to experiment around a bit more to see if other colours would look better however I will be keeping the scelra black because I think this adds to the horror feel.

In this version I tried out purple however I do not think it looks very realistic therefore I will not be using this image.

I also experimented with a turqiose colour, however this colour is not a conventional horror colour so I do not think it fits the horror genre very well ad I will not be using this one.

This one was my favourite because it is a subtle blue however I think it looks very effective and conventional to the horror genre. I will be using this image as my poster image because I think that this is the most striking image.

In this image I tried something different by adding a red tint on the image and I think it looks effective however I wanted the red blood on her face to stand out more and I think that this is more apparent on the black and white face.
Therefore I will be using the image with the black and white face with the red blood across it with the black and blue eyes, as this is also a similar image to the one used on my magazine cover therefore I would like the target audience to recgonise these two images and automatically link them together.

The Making of the Magazine Cover

This is my magazine cover, this is nearly the final edit, however I still need to move the position of the date and the price because this is not in a conventional place on this draft because I wanted to try something new but in this case it did not look effective and it is not a place that the audience would normally look for the price and the date. I also need to make the doll image more scary to make it obviously horror instead of the comical look it has now, this image needs to be darker and have some effects on it to make it have a really dark look. I need to fill up the empty space on top of the banner by making the main image bigger because it would look more filled out and therefore like a professional magazine.  But overall I think that my magazine is almost finished and I am quite happy with the progress of creating it so far.
I tried to change the picture to red to match the rest of the magazine and see if this would look better however this looks a bit too pink and therefore does not give the magazine the look I wnat it to have.

I added this blue filter and this broken glass effect around the doll image however I do not think this looks dark enough and it still has a bit of a comical look to it

I have been experimenting with the different pictures and I have chosen to use a new doll image altogether because I feel that the image I was using before was more comical becasue the eyes were half open and half closed. I have been researching different scary doll images on the internet and I found a picture that I took some ideas from for my doll image such as the dark rings around the eyes and the dirty look that gives the doll its horror look and I think that this images goes a lot better with the whole look of my magazine than the original one I was going to use. I still need to add the date and price and make the kicker next to the main image slightly bigger to make the layout of the magazine look better.

This is nearly my final magazine cover; as you can see I have changed the image of the doll, the size of the main image, the size of the kicker on the right hand side of the main image, the positioning of the date and the price. However I do not think that the positioning of the the price looks good because it is too big and is in an unconventional place, therefore this is the final thing that I will be changing. The magazine cover is in a much better quality magazine cover because I was saving it in JPEG format before however I realised that saving it in format makes the quality much better.

Viral Campaign

I have made a facebook fan page as part of the viral campaign for Nostalgia which will really help promote the film as many people from my target audieence age group are on facebook on a daily basis.

I have also created a like page with information about the film on it to create a real buzz about the film and get more peopel to know about it.

Our group would like to use this teaser trailer as a template and create something similar as part of our viral campaign, this will entice our audience to want to watch our film as they will be confused and curious because this baby video will be so random as it will just be sent to our target audience's email addresses, social networking websites such as facebook, twitter, hi5, bebo, etc. and their mobile phones and our target audience will be wondering why this creepy doll advert has been sent to them.

Personal Diary Entry and Coursework Tracker

I am up to date with all of my work now I need to make the mock ups and the final magazine and poster and am I completed finished. I have completed all of the tasks that are on my coursework tracker but I have also added extra research such as my viral campaigning ideas. Therefore I am happy with my progress.

New Images and Photoshop Experiments

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

I think that this image is much too pale and does not look professional because of the type of editing I did on it. I put a negative effect on the image which is not going to grab the audiences attention because you cannot see the image that well. I also think that the warp effect I used made the characters hands look unreal and weird which I did not like although it does look creepy I will not be using this as one of my images.

I think that the editing I did on this image is quite effective as her face really stands out against the black background. I have smudged black on all of the background and her eyes to make them look creepy and I have made the red stand out more by making it brighter. I will still need to edit this image more as I think that I made her teeth too white, but I really like the image and I will be using it on my magazine front cover.

This image is also quite effective as I have used some common conventions in horror such as the blue tint over the character which I think works well with the whole atmosphere I want to create with my poster therefore I will be using this image on my poster. However I will still need to edit it more by adding a black gradient from the bottom and making the redness of the blood more prominent to make the image more dramatic. I am going to make her face have some red on it to match the blood such as her eyes or lips, but I am going to see if that will look effective first.

I edited this image on Adobe Photoshop which I used to edit all of my images. I added a purple tint to the whole image and I darkened the top of the image such as around the characters face. I think this image is good however I do not think the purple looks scary enough for me to use it on my magazine or poster and it is not conventional. It would have worked better with a blue tint on it however I wanted to try something different, unfortunately it did not work out as well as I wanted and I will not be using this image.

I put a negative effect and a red tint on this image but I think that like in the first image I edited the negative effect made the characters hands look unreal and I did not like this. I also think that this image does not look professional enough for me to use on my magazine or poster and although red is conventional in horror I wanted to do something a bit different. I added a warp effect to make the characters arms and face look a bit creepier but I felt that this effect didn't look effective.

Test Shots

The image on the right was the first test shot that we took and as it was very bad quality and very blurry. We releasied that this would not be effective therefore we had to correct this and take much clearer pictures. I really like the image on the left as it has a shadow over it so it looks very dark and mysterious. Her eyes are sparkling blue which gives her an innocent look however the audience can tell that there is something creepy about her because of the lighting. I will be using this image in my viral campaign.

I liked this image because it looks very creepy with her eyes half open and half closed, however I will have to edit the pictures on Adobe Photshop if I am goign to use these on my poster or magazine because it looks quite comical at the moment and the look I am going for is more scary as it is going to be promoting my horror film.

These images are quite comical because the doll does not look intimidating and it looks funny. To make these images have a more horror look I am going to make the images more dark and mysterious by changing the brightness, the doll's face by edited her eyes to make them more scary, e.g. make them grey or red.

Market Research

Target Audience:
My target audience for my poster and my film magazine will obviously be film fans however they will be a specific type of film fans of teenagers and young adults who are normally interested in horror and comedy films as older and more mature audiences find these genres mediocre, I will try to appeal to them by using their feedback and my market research before I created my film magazine and poster and creating something that they will specifically like. The colour scheme will also play a part in attracting my target audience as the colours, red, black and white will give my magazine a modern look and they are also colours that are associated with the horror genre therefore my audience will be attracted by to horror edition of my magazine.

Questionnaire:

Mood Board-Poster

From the mood board I have created it is clear what kind of poster I want to create, it will be something which will really catch my audiences attention with strong images which will most probably include blood and other horror related features such as scary staring eyes, someone trying to get away from a evil being, etc. These are common conventions on horror posters and I would like to follow the conventional route so that my audience will automatically know that my poster is for a horror film, therefore I will make the process of getting my audiences attention very quick. I will also be using the colour scheme red, white and black as it is clear that these colours are heavily associated with horror therefore I believe that it is an important factor as the colour scheme will instantly let the audience know that my poster is of the horror genre.
